Rail Inspection
UT Inspection of Rail Structures
Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- – inspect the head, web, and central base regions of the rail to detect defects in the horizontal planes of the rail with a 0° beam transducer.
- – inspect the rail web to detect web, weld, and bolt defects while using a 45° angle beam transducer.
- – inspect the head of a rail to detect transverse fissures and weld defects greater than 5% of the head cross-section with a 70° transducer.
Understanding Ultrasonic Testing
UT Dual Media Inspection Using an A-Scan Instrument
Specular and Non-Specular Reflections
UT Sound Energy Transit Time
USM Go+ Courses
UT USM Go+ UT for the Busy Learner
Learning Outcomes:
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- – implement the basic principles of ultrasonic inspection
- – adjust and operate the USM Go+ to perform an ultrasonic inspection of railroad rails or other parts
- – perform this inspection in the main structural zones of rails or any structural geometries
- – use three primary sound beam angles ( 0 degrees, 45 degrees, and 70 degrees) to perform a complete inspection over reference reflectors in rail or other geometrical structures in less than 5 minutes with 80% accuracy
